Format of Play and Scoring

Event, Grouping & Eligibility for Playoffs

For both events, each team will field two doubles pairs. The CPL Committee reserves the right to alter the format of play in the event that the number of entries cannot fit the draw size.

Group Stage:
Teams will be divided into groups, and a Round-Robin group format will be adopted. That is, all teams in each group will play each other.
Knock-out Stage
Following the results of the Group Stage, teams will be ranked and will advance to the Platinum, Gold and Silver Knockout Stages, respectively.

FORMAT

  • A match is divided into 4 Quarters of 6 minutes; plus, a possible sudden death (if 2-2).
  • Each team must field at least two doubles pairs, with men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles all allowed.
  • First team to win 3 quarter win the match
    Example
    Match score: Team A defeats Team B 3-2 (14-12, 11-15, 12-10, 15-16, 2-1)
  • If in case of a draw 2-2 (2 quarters each), it’s sudden death : the first team to score 2 points in a row wins (players serve in turn). The team which has won the most points during the 4 quarters decides whether to serve or receive.
  • During the 6 minutes, teams score as many points as possible (with a simplified counting like tie-breaks… 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, 3-1, etc)

CHRONO – TIME

  • If a point is in progress when the 6 minutes bell rings, the point continues to the end.
  • 15 seconds maximum between points. The server team controls the tempo (provided the receiver is given at least 5 seconds).
  • 2 minutes of rest during side changes between quarters.

SERVE

  • One serve ball (immediate loss of the point for a serve fault) and “No-Let” rule apply.
  • Two serve points each (one on tie side, one on advantage side)
