Background

The aim of the scheme is to officially recognise private coaches, clubs and companies (private providers) that deliver quality tennis programs in Hong Kong. As the parent body of tennis in Hong Kong, the HKCTA believes it is essential to have an effective and cooperative relationship with the private sector in Hong Kong, recognising best-practice in coaching, competition, and tournament programs.

The HKCTA will commit to acknowledging, recommending and supporting private programs which maintain high standards, and satisfy the criteria of the HKCTA Endorsement Scheme.

There are six categories for endorsement:
1. Mini-Red Programs
2. Mod-Orange Programs
3. Junior Participation (Green and Yellow ball) Programs
4. Tournament Player Programs

Note: HKCTA will not endorse private tennis lessons, for adults or junior players, and therefore will not offer an opinion on the quality of private tennis lessons provided by a private provider.

Private providers must meet specific criteria to gain endorsement. The process is not designed to be arduous, but is put in place to ensure private programs underpin and support existing HKCTA player development programs, particularly the National Training Centre, National Training Squad, and NTS Futures program.
The endorsement will be reviewed every 12 months. For the 2020 calendar year, endorsement may commence as early as 1 September 2019.

“Clubs” are affiliated clubs that are financial members of HKCTA, and take part in HKCTA League competitions.
“Coaches” are coaches with recognised qualifications, police and child protection checks. They provide tennis lessons either on public courts or private facilities, and have the appropriate insurance.
“Companies” are entities that provide coaching and other tennis services, to private clubs or other similar organisations.
“Lessons” are group sessions consisting of players of a similar developmental level. Note: the quality of private tennis lessons will not be part of this Endorsement Scheme.

Endorsement process

The Endorsement Scheme application will be sent to all local private providers (clubs, coaches, companies), and posted on the HKCTA website.

A meeting will be scheduled, on site, suitable for both parties, where evidence of criteria is presented to the HKCTA Director of Player Development, or his/her representative.

The initial endorsement period will be for the remainder of 2019 and for the 2020 calendar year.

Providers must maintain standards and continue to satisfy all criteria throughout the period of endorsement.

At any stage, if the provider is unable to maintain the standard agreed to, endorsement will be cancelled.
