Davis Cup 2025 World Group II Team Hong Kong, China Beats Team Uzbekistan 3-1 and Moves One Step Closer to World Group I

(14th September 2025, Hong Kong) The Davis Cup 2025 World Group II Hong Kong, China VS Uzbekistan second day of play resumed at Victoria Park Tennis Centre Court, once again drawing the city’s attention. Despite the scorching heat, fans showed up early with unwavering enthusiasm, filling the stands with loud cheers and giving Team Hong Kong, China an extra surge of energy. Victoria Park came alive as fans unveiled a bold “GO HK” mosaic across the stands on both days. The unified display and thunderous cheers captured the strength, unity, and passion of Hong Kong tennis supporters, creating an unforgettable moment.

The first coin toss for the doubles match between Coleman Wong and Wong Chun Hun (HKG) and Khumoyun Sultanov and Sergey Fomin (UZB) was officiated by Mr. George Tsoi Kin Pan, JP, Commissioner for Sports from the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau.

Building on the energy from the crowd, Coleman Wong and Wong Chun Hun secured a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6(7) victory over Khumoyun Sultanov and Sergey Fomin, giving Team Hong Kong, China a 2-1 lead in the Davis Cup tie.

With momentum on their side, the attention then turned to the singles match. Mr. Michael Cheng, President, and Mr. Ronnie Cheng, Vice President of the Hong Kong, China Tennis Association, officiated the coin toss for the singles match between Coleman Wong and Khumoyun Sultanov.

Riding on his earlier success, Coleman Wong delivered an outstanding performance to defeat Khumoyun Sultanov 6-2, 6-2, sealing the victory for Team Hong Kong, China. With this result, Hong Kong secured a 3-1 lead over Uzbekistan and advances one step closer to Davis Cup World Group I.

Reflecting on the achievement, Hong Kong, China Team Captain Yu Hiu Tung remarked, “I hope we can draw a home venue again for the next Davis Cup matchup.”

The 2025 World Group II ties are played on either 12-13 or 13-14 September, with the host nation making the decision on dates. The 13 winning nations will compete in the 2026 World Group I Play-offs. The losing nations will compete in a World Group II Play-off in 2026.

Today’s victory represents a milestone for Team Hong Kong, China at Davis Cup. Team Hong Kong competed in the Asia/Oceania Zone Group I in 1989 and from 1993 to 1995. Today’s achievement not only revives that proud legacy but also points to a new era for Hong Kong tennis, fueled by the players’ determination and the fans’ unwavering support.
