The Hong Kong event has previously announced its all-star line-up, which includes Australia’s top-ranked player and current World No. 8, 2024 UTS Grand Final London champion Alex de Minaur; along with current world No. 11 player and 2024 UTS Oslo champion Andrey Rublev; Chinese star Zhang Zhizhen; and tennis fans’ favourite, the Australian Nick Kyrgios.

Chinese tennis star Zhang Zhizhen attended today’s pre-match press conference. Zhang is the highest-ranked Chinese male tennis player in history. He won the mixed doubles silver medal partnering Wang Xinyu at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. He also became the first Chinese player to reach an ATP Tour Masters 1000 quarterfinal (Madrid 2023). The event will mark both Zhang Zhizhen’s UTS debut and his first time competing in Hong Kong.

Mr. Zhang Zhizhen said, “I’m very excited to be participating in this amazing new tournament format and thrilled to see UTS make its debut in Asia. Players conduct mid-quarter interviews displayed on giant screens, spectators do not need to keep quiet and can move around the arena, and live music and lighting effects create an electrifying atmosphere distinct from traditional tennis events.

Following the successful hosting of three international men’s and women’s tournaments last year, the new “Hong Kong Tennis Season” kicks-off this October, with the Hong Kong, China Tennis Association (HKCTA) launching the season with the UTS Hong Kong 2025. In a break away from traditional tennis competitions, this revolutionary “sportainment” spectacle, featuring a dynamic format, celebrity players, and electrifying performances, serves as the season’s opening event, offering fans a uniquely different tennis experience.
