HKCTA Foundation Charity Golf Tournament 2025

The HKCTA Foundation Charity Golf Tournament 2025 in association with The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club was held successfully last Thursday on June 12. Despite the potential threat of a looming tropical cyclone, thanks to over 100 participants and the respective donors, the annual fundraiser tallied close to HK$800,000 this year. The net proceeds will go towards HKCTA training programmes and other initiatives that benefit the less privileged and under-resourced members of the local community through the active engagement in tennis.

HKCTA President, Mr. Michael Cheng: “Tennis is a sport that has a wide appeal and our elite players benefit tremendously from the support of the government, as well as our commercial partners. Through our CSR initiatives, we can serve the under-resourced and underprivileged communities, while furthering our activation strategy by bringing tennis to people who may otherwise lack the opportunity or access to the sport. Moreover, I want to thank the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club not only for helping us raise funds today, but also for their support of tennis over the years and having built such a robust and impactful Community Outreach and Charity Programme that has benefited so many.”

HKCTA Foundation Chairman, Dr. Kelvin Inge, said: “I’m delighted to see our foundation receive such tremendous support, especially from Dr. Wong and CBGCC’s Community Outreach and Charity Programme, whose dedication and generosity cannot be overemphasized. We are thrilled to have raised the highest figure on record since our inaugural event in 2021, which will give us the opportunity to extend our reach in the local community, giving those in need another avenue to find joy and purpose in life, meet new friends and achieve a sense of belonging that will hopefully motivate and enrich their daily experience.”

“For two decades, HKCTA has been our key partner in promoting sports through our annual Clearwater Bay tennis tournament. The funds raised will support HKCTA Foundation’s tennis programmes and to maximize today’s impact, CBGCC has covered all operational costs—logistics, golf carts, green fees, lunch, and dinner—ensuring every dollar raised goes directly to HKCTA. It’s more than just sports—it’s about creating opportunities, breaking barriers, and building brighter futures! Together, we’re building a future of possibilities,” commented Dr. Jack Wong, Chairman of the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club.

Since 2003, the CBGCC’s Community Outreach and Charity Programme (COP) has evolved from a simple idea into a comprehensive and scalable project, benefiting over 50 charities during that time. It has underpinned the Club’s commitment to creating a positive impact on the community and promoting sports. The COP is built upon four pillars: Family, Wellness. Neighbourhood and Environment. With its members’ support, this dedication has become an integral part of the club’s ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) initiative.

Sports can help the underprivileged and under-resourced communities by providing safe spaces, building essential life skills, supporting education, promoting health, preventing negative behaviors, and fostering social inclusion. Through these benefits, sports can break cycles of poverty and empower individuals to reach their full potential Through the provision of access to tennis, the HKCTA Foundation seeks to offer opportunities to further the educational and personal development of these groups in a fun and active way.

People from under-served communities and marginalised groups are often confronted with isolation and the feeling of helplessness. Access to tennis can foster social interaction and helps individuals build and maintain social connections, thereby empowering them to overcome adversity and create lasting positive changes.

The funds raised this year will go towards:

– The Wheelchair Tennis training courses, including the training and preparation of two athletes who eligible to participate in the National Games for Disabled 2025.

– Regular tennis training for students with special needs, we coordinated with different special schools and NGOs, such as Love 21, Heep Hong, and The Hong Kong Society for the Deaf.

– Underprivileged students (receiving government subsidies) participating in Orange Community Programme (9 & Under), encouraging them to participate in local competitions by covering all their tournament entry fees.

Thus far, the HKCTA Foundation has raised over $3,500,000 since the inaugural Charity Golf Tournament in 2021.
