Hong Kong Makes History with Silver Medal Finish at Pickleball World Cup 2025

(5 November 2025, Hong Kong) The Hong Kong, China pickleball team has made history by capturing the silver medal at the Pickleball World Cup 2025, cementing their place on the international stage after a spectacular tournament run. The team’s remarkable journey concluded in the championship final where they fell 0-4 to the powerhouse United States. Despite the result, their performance won the admiration of the international pickleball community. 

This silver medal marks Hong Kong’s best-ever finish in international pickleball competition—a watershed moment for the sport in the city. Throughout the tournament, the team played with extraordinary heart and determination, proving that Hong Kong belongs among the world’s elite pickleball nations. 

The historic silver medal was earned by Hong Kong’s talented roster: Marco Leung, Julian Chow, Venise Chan, Nok Yiu Tang, Michelle Man and Ryan Lam 

This dynamic team showcased exceptional skill and versatility in the demanding tournament format, where each match is a best-of-six series featuring one Men’s Doubles and one Women’s Doubles, two Mixed Doubles, one Women’s Singles and one Men’s Singles match. The tension-filled “Final Battle” tiebreaker awaited any 3-3 deadlock. 

Hong Kong’s path to the final was nothing short of exceptional. They swept through group play with 6-0 victories over Venezuela and Jamaica, plus a 5-1 win against the Czech Republic. Their momentum continued unabated in knockout rounds with a 4-0 shutout of the Netherlands, a 4-2 victory over Belgium, and a hard-fought 4-2 triumph against New Zealand in the Quarter-Finals. The team then secured their historic final berth with a 4-3 semi-final victory over Portugal. 
 
Alongside their silver medal, Team Hong Kong, China received the Best Delegation Award for demonstrating exceptional sportsmanship, unity, and positive impact throughout the tournament. Additionally, Michelle Man was honored with the Female Fair Play Award, recognizing her outstanding character and fair play both on and off the court. 

“We poured everything we had into this match,” said team captain Marco Leung of Hong Kong, China. “Facing a world-class USA team was a true test, and although we didn’t clinch the gold, this silver is a landmark moment for Hong Kong pickleball. It’s proof that our athletes can rise to the global challenge. This medal stands for our grit, our unity, and the belief that Hong Kong deserves its place among the elite.”

Team Hong Kong, China’s silver medal achievement at the Pickleball World Cup 2025—an event featuring 68 competing nations—marks a historic milestone for the city. This landmark result signals the emergence of Hong Kong, China as a rising force in international pickleball and serves as a powerful inspiration for the next generation of athletes. 

In addition to the Open event, Hong Kong, China also found success in the senior team category. The senior squad—comprising Asif Ismail, Barbara Yuen, Haj Wilcox, Monty Lo, Ingrid Lau, and Rajan Khemlyani—delivered a strong showing by winning all their pool matches against Spain (3-1), Dominican Republic (3-1), and Colombia (4-0). They advanced to the play-offs, defeating Uruguay (3-1) before narrowly falling to Chinese Taipei (1-3) in a hard-fought Round of 16 match. Their performance further underscored Hong Kong’s growing depth and talent across age divisions.

The 2025 edition in Florida was the largest to date, with participation from 68 countries, highlighting the sport’s explosive global growth.
