The Hong Kong, China Tennis Association (HKCTA) today announced the Davis Cup squad that will travel to Bolivia to compete against the host nation in the Davis Cup World Group II Round 1 tie.
Led by Team Captain Andy Lau, the Hong Kong, China Davis Cup team will comprise Wong Tsz Fu, Jack Cheng, Choi Fu Wang, Nicholas Cheng and Tam Sin Hang. Fielding a youthful squad, with players aged between 15 and 20, the HKCTA hopes this will provide an opportunity to build up the next generation of local tennis players.
Michael Cheng, President of the Hong Kong, China Tennis Association, said “Hong Kong is brimming with up-and-coming tennis talent, and the Davis Cup is one key opportunity to forge the next generation. Every match and every tie gives our young players the exposure, pressure and experience they need to grow. I wish the team a meaningful journey ahead.”
Andy Lau, Team Captain, said “It is always a different feeling to play as part of Team Hong Kong and fight for a larger cause. I hope to share my experience with these young talents and am confident that they are able to shine on the international stage.”
The team will set off for Bolivia shortly after midnight on 11 September. The matchdays are scheduled for 18 and 19 September, to be played at Club de Tenis Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
Wong Tsz Fu, Jack Cheng, Nicholas Cheng and Tam Sin Hang are all members of the Men’s (under-20) Team that won a historic bronze medal at the 15th National Games, marking Hong Kong’s first-ever medal in a tennis team event.
At 20 years old, Wong Tsz Fu is the squad’s most experienced player, earning his fourth Davis Cup nomination. He played singles twice, against Namibia and Uzbekistan respectively in 2025.
Jack Cheng, aged 17, made his Davis Cup debut against Ecuador in 2024 and has been selected to represent Team Hong Kong for the third time in this tie.
This is the first Davis Cup nomination for 15-year-old Choi Fu Wang, who is currently at a career-high No. 285 in the ITF Junior Rankings. He enters the tie in strong form, having recently claimed a J60 singles title, as well as doubles titles at J60 and J100 events.
Having made his Davis Cup debut against Finland in both singles and doubles earlier this year, Nicholas Cheng, aged 18, has earned his second nomination. He is currently ranked No. 151 in the ITF Junior Rankings and reached a career-high ranking of No. 59 in January.
Tam Sin Hang, aged 17, is currently ranked No. 261 in the ITF Junior Rankings. This is his second Davis Cup nomination.
By defeating Uzbekistan at home in September 2025, Hong Kong, China advanced to the 2026 World Group I Play-offs. However, the hopes of returning to World Group I fell short after suffering a narrow 1-3 defeat to Finland on home soil in February 2026.
Updates to Team Hong Kong Leadership and Selection Framework
The HKCTA is currently undertaking a comprehensive review of our development pathway, with a particular focus on evolving our selection strategy for Team Hong Kong’s junior and senior team events. The goal is to build a coherent, structured player pipeline capable of consistently achieving honours on the international stage.
As part of this ongoing review, several changes will be introduced over the coming weeks and months. We aim to have the new selection framework fully in place in time for the 2027 team event season.
Given the unique scheduling of two major back-to-back competitions this September—the Davis Cup tie and the Asian Games—we are also implementing immediate adjustments to our leadership structure. These changes are designed to ensure we deploy two strong delegations in consecutive weeks, and have been formally endorsed by the HKCTA Selection Committee.
Key Appointments
Yu Hiu Tung has been appointed Deputy Manager of Team Hong Kong, and will serve as deputy to Manager Ronnie Cheng. In this expanded capacity, Yu Hiu Tung will also join the Selection Committee, providing strategic input on Team Hong Kong matters across all competitions—moving beyond his previous focus on Davis Cup. We extend our sincere gratitude to Yu Hiu Tung for his decade of dedicated service as Davis Cup Captain, and we wish him every success in his broader leadership role.
To align with the governance structure of other Tier A sports in Hong Kong, the HKCTA will be making internal appointments to formally designate Captains and Coaches responsible for the technical delivery of Team Hong Kong.
For the upcoming Davis Cup tie against Bolivia, Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) Coach Andy Lau will serve as Captain, alongside HKSI Coach Armand Romain Rafalimanana as Team Coach.
As for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, HKSI Coach Yoann Le Mee will be Coach in charge and will be supported by HKSI Coach Feng Nian.
