Player Development Pathway: Ready for New Term

We are ready for the new school year. PDC was finally relaunched in July and we have produced an NTS training curriculum as a collective group. Together with the technical team, we now stand together to make it work. It’s not perfect by any means, but it’s progress, and we will continue to adapt, communicate, and make the necessary adjustments to make it better.

The goal is to have in place a Long-Term Development Programme producing more players and help them to be better at every level and consequently producing more high level players also. Each centre will now adhere to the same training structure and with a specific fitness plan for different age groups. We want to provide ample competitive opportunities for the players to improve their game and we are aiming for 80-100 matches.

An annual plan will be divided in to phases of training, splitting up the year into smaller units with objectives to allow the player to train at the highest possible volume and intensity. This will enable the player to peak at the right times, while reducing the risks of over-training and injuries. All our coaches have clearly defined roles and responsibilities, and their focus will be helping the players reach their targets and goals, and becoming a better player every day.

I wish everyone an awesome and productive school year. It takes self-discipline and good time management skills to juggle school work and tennis. For those of you who have aspirations to play college tennis and beyond, this is the training ground where you can learn to adapt and excel and become the best player you can be, reaching new heights that you never thought was possible. It might even be a struggle in the beginning, but allow the periodisation to set in and challenge yourselves to give your best effort in whatever you do on a daily basis.

One Team. One Fraternity. One Vision

Sincerely

Michael Cheng, PDC Chairman
