Chris Lai, CEO of HKCTA, has recently informed the Council of his decision to retire from his executive position in the near future. Having served as CEO for over a decade, and with a long-standing association with HKCTA in various roles including as a player, Council member and treasurer, Chris has made significant contributions to Hong Kong Tennis. We extend our gratitude for his dedicated service, and wish him all the best in his next chapter.
Chris’ last day as CEO will be 30 October 2025. To ensure a smooth transition, he has kindly agreed to serve as an adviser to HKCTA until the end of the financial year (31 March 2026).
HKCTA has initiated an open search for the next CEO, and the process is currently underway. Further updates will be shared in due course.
In the interim, the HKCTA Council has appointed Calvin Lai (COO of HKCTA) as Acting CEO until the new CEO is identified and assumes the role. Calvin will be supported by two key leaders overseeing HKCTA’s core operational pillars:
- Steven Host, Director of Player Development and Tennis Operations; and Acting Head Coach of Hong Kong Sports Institute, will serve as Head of Activation, leading all development-related matters, including (i) Performance & Development; (ii) Participation Programmes; (iii) Tournament Operations; and (iv) Coach Education.
- Peter Johnston, Director of International Events, alongside Kelvin Lam, COO of International Events, will continue to lead the International Events division, managing HKCTA’s tournaments under Hong Kong Tennis Season, namely UTS, WTA and ATP.
As COO, Calvin already oversees HKCTA’s business management functions, including Legal & Compliance, Company Secretariat, Finance, HR, and Marketing. As a matter of priority Calvin will be focusing on working through the SF&OC governance review and working with the finance team to further strengthen HKCTA’s financial infrastructure and control.
Calvin, Steven, and Peter will form a Management Committee reporting to HKCTA’s Executive Committee (headed by Oscar Chow, Honorary Secretary of HKCTA) and Finance Taskforce (headed by Clement Lee, Honorary Treasurer of HKCTA), to ensure effective oversight during this transition period.
