L. Cyril Kotewall

Biography

Known to everyone simply as ‘Uncle Cyril’, Kotewall won his first title at the grand old age of 12, and his last at the tender age of 72. He holds the honour of being the longest-serving person to have dedicated his time and services to Hong Kong tennis, having first started his contributions to local tennis in 1947. He was also the territory’s first-ever Davis Cup captain when Hong Kong was accepted to the competition in 1970. As a player, he represented the CRC Men’s A League team for an impressive 20 years. He also had the distinction of having served on numerous tennis tournaments and tennis-related organising committees in Hong Kong, and was the only man to have served on the Tournament Committee for both the Hong Kong Hardcourt Championships and the Hong Kong National Grass Court Championships.
