So I’m really appreciative of the whole journey that I’ve had this season and the work that my team and I have put in.”

ON MANAGING A LONG SEASON

“The season’s very long, so it’s natural that there are better moments and moments where it’s a little bit more difficult. But health is at the forefront of my priorities, both mentally and physically. There are just different ways I plan and approach both aspects. But rest is also very important. The season has been super long for a lot of us, but that’s something to think about when I’m out of the tournament. Right now, my mind is preoccupied with how I can prepare in the best way and compete, and be ready to fight.”

ON EXPECTATIONS

“Having shown a certain level or shown myself that I’m capable of A, B, and C, it’s natural that the expectations rise. But so does the demand in terms of what the sport demands of you, and what the level demands of you. So, although it’s super important to have high standards, it’s also important to be understanding of said demands, to be understanding that I am able to produce a certain level, and it takes a lot of work to be able to exert that each and every time. As I said, the season is very long, so it’s natural that it goes up and down, but with that being said, I’m super proud of this whole year, even the past couple of weeks, of how I’ve been working, how I’ve been training. I’m super proud of that, and I’m coming into the last tournament of the season with no regrets. I’ve done everything I could have possibly done. I seem to get better whenever I do that. (…) “It’s the same approach as always in my training and discipline for each match. And, of course, I’m extremely perfectionist. I want to know that I am prepared to give my best on the court, and the only way to do that is to be completely prepared. All of the other players are playing very well now, so I have to be ready for that.

I think that there’s always something new to learn and ways to reinvent yourself. A lot of what I’m doing here is continuing to learn and push my game, and to add things and change things. It’s not always easy, but I think it’s always the right thing to do.
