Seeded 3rd, the boys beat Chongqing in the first round and Hebei in the quarterfinals before top-seeded Jiangsu halted their progress in the semifinals.

Coleman Wong became the first player from Hong Kong to medal in singles after eventual champion Wu Yibing halted his progress in a hard-fought semifinal 6-7(6) 7-6(7) 6-4. After taking the opening set, Wong trailed Wu Yibing 6-2 in the second set tiebreak but saved four successive set points to peg the score back to an even-steven 6-6. They were all square again at 7-7 before Wu Yibing strong-armed the next two points to claim the breaker 9-7 and force a decider.

Wu Yibing broke Wong in the opening game of the third set and played extremely well to ride that one-break advantage right until the end when he conjured a spectacular forehand winner on match point to prevail. Wong had beaten Wu twice before, first at the Asian Games in 2023 when he saved five match points from 6-1 down in the third set tiebreak to win 6-4 3-6 7-6 and then again at the ATP 250 Hangzhou Open when Wu Yibing retired hurt after conceding the first set 6-3.

The women’s doubles pairing of Eudice Chong/Cody Wong defeated Wang Qiang/Zheng Saisai (Tianjin) to reach the quarterfinals before they went down against top-seeded Tang Qianhui/Guo Hanyu (Sichuan) and came in 5th place. The men’s doubles pairing of Coleman Wong/Kevin Wong also placed fifth after 4th-seeded eventual champions Tang Sheng/Sun Qian (Jiangsu) bested them in the last eight.

In women’s doubles, Wang Qiang/Zheng Saisai (Tianjin) were serving for the first set leading 5-3, 40-0, but Eudice Chong/Cody Wong saved four set points and broke the Tianjin pair to get back on serve. The HK duo eventually took the set in a tiebreak 7-5. Chong and Wong had the momentum and broke first in the second to go up 4-2. Now just two games away from one of their biggest wins, Wang and Zheng conjured their own service break to peg the score back to 4-3. However, Chong and Wong, were not to be denied, as they swiftly returned the favour and broke back for 5-3 before holding serve confidently to register a 7-6(5) 6-3 victory for the ages.

It must be said that Wang Qiang and Zheng Saisai are two of China’s top players in recent memory. In women’s doubles at the National Games, Zheng Saisai won a silver in 2013 and a bronze in 2021. In women’s singles, Wang Qiang won a gold in 2017 and 2021, while Zheng Saisai was also a silver medallist in 2021. Wang Qiang also won the gold medal in singles at the 2014 and 2018 Asian Games.

Before the emergence of Zheng Qinwen, Wang Qiang’s career-high WTA ranking of No. 12 makes her the second highest-ranked Chinese singles player in history after only Li Na, who peaked at No. 2 in the world. Zheng Saisai reached a career-high doubles ranking of No. 15 in the world and captured six WTA doubles titles. She was a doubles semifinalist at the Australian Open and a runner-up at the French Open.

Prior to this year, Hong Kong had only medalled once at the National Games back in 2001 courtesy of John Hui/Melvin Tong’s bronze in men’s doubles. That year, the HK duo defeated No. 2 seed Jiang Shan/Zhu Ben-Qiang in most dramatic fashion in the 3rd place playoff to cement the historic bronze.

Team Hong Kong

Team Manager: Steve Host
Coach of Men’s Team: Leo Liu
Coach of Women’s Team: Zhang Ling

Men’s Singles & Doubles: Coleman Wong, Kevin Wong, Nicholas Cheng, Jack Cheng, Wong Tsz Fu

Men’s (under-20) Team: Jack Cheng, Nicholas Cheng, Walter Tam, Kai Thompson, Wong Tsz Fu

Women’s Singles & Doubles: Eudice Chong, Justine Leong, Maggie Ng, Cody Wong, Tiffany Wu

Women’s (under-20) Team: Rosalyn Chan, Vienna Lai, Yandy Shek, Chloe Wong, Cameron Yeung

Performance Trainer: Romain Deffet
Team Physician: Alex Ng, Freeman Kwok

Podium Finish
Men’s Singles

Gold: Wu Yibing (Zhejiang)
Silver: Jerry Shang (Beijing)
Bronze: Coleman Wong (Hong Kong)
Bronze: Zhou Yi (Guangxi)

Men’s (under-20) Team

Gold: Beijing
Silver: Jiangsu
Bronze: Hong Kong
Bronze: Guangxi

Results
15th National Games
Hengqin International Tennis Centre
Zhuhai, Guangdong
9-20 November 2025

Men’s Singles

Semifinals
(3)Wu Yibing (Zhejiang) d.
