(Hong Kong, 8 May 2026) The Hong Kong, China Tennis Association (“HKCTA”) announces its partnership with Sino Group to host the “Pickleball World Cup 2026 Hong Kong, China Representative Team Selection Tournament ” in June.
This year’s Pickleball World Cup will be held in Da Nang, Vietnam in September. Team Hong Kong, China will compete across four categories: Junior, Open, Senior, and Master divisions. Registration for the selection tournament opens today (8 May), with each category offering 24 team places for both men’s and women’s doubles.
The eight winning teams, comprising a total of 16 players, will become team representatives and receive support from the HKCTA and Sino Group for two months of professional training.
Hong Kong Pickleball Reaches World-Class Standards with Historic World Cup Silver Medal
With the rise of pickleball globally, HKCTA has actively promoted the professionalisation of Hong Kong’s pickleball development in recent years by gradually establishing comprehensive competition and training systems. Over the past year, HKCTA has organised local pickleball leagues and launched regular coaching and officiating certification courses. The Association also co-hosted the 2025 PPA Tour Asia Hong Kong Open which attracted over 100 elite players from around the world to compete in Hong Kong. This significantly enhanced Hong Kong’s standing in the international pickleball community.
In 2025, HKCTA held its first selection tournament, forming Team Hong Kong, China for the Pickleball World Cup held in the United States. The team performed exceptionally, making history by capturing the Open Division silver medal, becoming a celebrated achievement in Hong Kong’s sporting landscape and demonstrating that local pickleball athletes possess international competitiveness.
Building on Success to Compete Again in the World Cup
This year’s selection tournament aims to once again discover top talent, with the selected 16 representatives receiving two months of professional training at the “tmtp commons” Team Hong Kong home court, preparing for the World Cup 2026 in Da Nang, Vietnam, in September, striving to continue their excellent performance.
Team Hong Kong, China will compete in four categories at the Pickleball World Cup 2026: Junior, Open, Senior, and Master divisions. The selection tournament employs a dual format combining group stage matches with knockout elimination rounds. Each category offers 24 team places for both men’s and women’s doubles. This accommodates up to 192 teams and 384 athletes in total across different age groups and provides more local players with opportunities to participate in Team Hong Kong selection.
Sino Group’s Full Support: Establishing Team Hong Kong Pickleball Training and Event Development
The selection tournament will be held at the multi-purpose sports venue “tmtp commons” at tmtplaza under Sino Group, establishing it as the “Home Court of the Hong Kong Pickleball Team”. Professional facilities and training support will then be provided for local elite pickleball athletes, nurturing them to represent Hong Kong in international competitions.
Through this collaboration, HKCTA and Sino Group aim to cultivate more pickleball talent and help Hong Kong excel on the international sporting stage. Beyond developing elite athletes, the partnership will bring pickleball to schools and communities. This creates a complete ecosystem for the sport whilst promoting both grassroots participation and elite development in Hong Kong.
