(23 May 2026, Hong Kong) Eudice Chong became the first player from Hong Kong to capture a WTA doubles title at the Morocco Open yesterday (22 May). After finishing runners-up three times on tour, Chong lifted the doubles trophy with her partner, Magali Kempen of Belgium. This historic victory is a testament to the power of perseverance, turning past setbacks into a platform for a groundbreaking achievement.
On the path to winning her maiden WTA title in Rabat, Morocco, Chong and Kempen reached the final in style, winning all three matches in straight sets. After taking one set each against top-seeded opponents Aldila Sutjiadi and Vera Zvonareva, the final was decided by a third set super-tiebreak. Trailing 5-4 in the super-tiebreak, the Hong Kong, China-Belgian duo snatched the next five points on the trot with two huge returns from Kempen and a slew of probing crosscourt forehands by Chong that kept their opponents at bay. They jumped out to a whopping 9-5 lead following an ace by Kempen and sealed the match with a 6-3 2-6 [10-6] victory.
Upon being crowned doubles champion at the WTA 250 Morocco Open, Eudice Chong said, “Lifting this trophy means everything to me, because this victory wasn’t just won on this court—it was built over years of sweat and tears. I had three WTA 250 finals under my belt, and I knew I just had to get over this hump to make the next big jump. I would also like to thank Magali for being such an incredible partner, for standing strong with me through the ups and downs of each match. Next up, my goal is to push for the 500s and 1000s, and prove that there is where I belong.”
