Coleman Wong Chak-lam and Alexander Bublik to Compete in “M” Mark events Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open
(8 December 2025, HONG KONG) The Hong Kong, China Tennis Association (“HKCTA”) announced today that Bank of China (Hong Kong) (“BOCHK”) will return as the title sponsor of the Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open (“BOCHKTO”). Together with the HKCTA and other event partners, BOCHK will continue to make tennis more accessible to the Hong Kong public, and grow the sport in Hong Kong.
The Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open 2026 is proud of being an “M” Mark event that helps enhance the image of Hong Kong as Asia’s sports event capital. The “M” Mark status is awarded by the Major Sports Events Committee symbolizing intense, spectacular and signature events in the territory sports calendar.
Taking place at the iconic Victoria Park Tennis Centre Court in Causeway Bay from 4 to 11 January 2026, the ATP season opening event will once again host a parade of world’s best men’s tennis players to Hong Kong as they look to sharpen their early season form.
With total prize money exceeding USD 730,000, four of the top 20 will feature in the 28-player Singles’ draw including world number eight Italian Lorenzo Musetti, world number 11 Alexander Bublik from Kazakhstan, BOCHKTO 2024 champion world number 16 Andrey Rublev, and, world number 18 Karan Khachanov. Asia’s challenge will be led by the men’s singles champion and runner-up at the 15th National Games – Wu Yibing and Jerry Shang Juncheng respectively, as well as local’s best Coleman Wong Chak-lam, who became the first men’s player from the city to reach the third round of a Grand Slam, at the US Open this year.
Asia’s Finest Ready for the New Season
Local tennis star Coleman Wong Chak-lam, Chinese mainland top-ranked Jerry Shang Juncheng, and Wu Yibing have confirmed their appearances at the upcoming Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open.
The 21-year-old Wong is coming off of a breakthrough year, amassing numerous milestones for an athlete representing Hong Kong, China. After becoming the first player from the city to win an ATP Masters 1000 tournament match in Miami, he went on to shock tournament 13th seed Ben Shelton in the next round. He reconfirmed his talent on the world stage by making a historic run to the third round of the US Open in August, losing in a tight five-setter to Andrey Rublev, winner of the debut Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open in 2024.
He continued his heroics by leading Hong Kong, China to a Davis Cup win over Uzbekistan, winning all three of his matches. He is currently in great shape after reaching the final of the recent Seoul Challenger and semifinals of the 15th National Games.
Former world number 54 Wu is on a comeback trail after a break from the tour in 2023 and 2024 to nurse a foot issue. On his return in the autumn of 2024, he reached the third round of the Shanghai Masters, and won his sixth Challenger title a few months after that.
Wu beat Coleman Wong Chak-lam in the semifinals at the 15th National Games in three very tight sets. In the final against Shang, the 26-year-old came through yet another thriller to beat Shang to stake his claim as the best in China.
Five years his junior, Shang was a semifinalist at the last two BOCHKTO, but following his foray into the last four in Hong Kong in January this year, his season was hampered by injury, and a subsequent foot surgery kept him out of the tour till July. He quickly regained his form, reaching the third round of the Shanghai Masters 1000 event. Together with his result at the 15th National Games, Shang will be full of confidence as he begins his 2026 season.
International Stars Confirmed to Compete at Asia’s Mega-Event Capital
An array of international stars will join the Chinese trio in the field in four weeks’ time. The Italian Musetti has had his finest season to-date, reaching his first French Open semifinal and first US Open quarterfinal, and qualifying for the ATP Finals in Turin last month. The Italian with arguably the most stylish one-handed backhand in the game, reached the quarterfinals at the BOCHKTO last year.
Kazakhstani Bublik will be playing the BOCHKTO for the first time after a resurgent 2025. In addition to his four titles, he reached the quarterfinals of the French Open and the fourth round of the US Open. The 28-year-old is currently at his highest world ranking number 11, a jump of over 70 places from March.
Rublev and Khachanov have both confirmed their return to the ATP250 event. 11 months ago, the two friends teamed up in Hong Kong in the men’s doubles and made it all the way to the final. Rublev finished his 2025 season with a title in Doha and a year-end ranking of 16.
A quarterfinal spot and runner-up finish at the Canadian Masters 1000 event saw Khachanov climb back into the world’s top 10. The 29-year-old has reached at least the quarterfinals in all Grand Slams singles’ competition.
In addition to its support of BOCHKTO, BOCHK is also the Lead Partner of HKCTA, which title sponsors a number of local leagues and the Hong Kong stops of the ITF Men’s World Tennis Tour organised by HKCTA. Every day from Wednesday, 7 January until Finals’ Day on Sunday, 11 January, an award-winning eatery will be offering their finest to lead diners through an unforgettable gastronomic journey.
To start, fans can look forward to MONO’s Chef Ricardo’s creations, – global fusion with inspiration from Latin American flavour and his French technique foundation, on Wednesday 7 January, while Chef Ryota Kanesawa and his team from Michelin-star eatery Ryota Kappou Modern will return with its sumptuous Japanese menu on Thursday 8 January.
