Hong Kong junior elite Jackie Tang ended his amazing run at the ITF G2 Hong Kong Open Junior Tennis Championships 2015 at Victoria Park Stadium after losing a heartbreaking three set match to No.3 seed Alexei POPYRIN in semi-final of the boys’ singles event.
Hong Kong suffered from a disastrous opening of the tournament as 5 out of 7 locals players were being knocked out in the very first day of the boys singles event, with only Sunny Yue and Jackie Tang survived.
Sunny fell to 5th seed Piotr MATUSZEWSKI later by 3-6 1-6 while Jackie continued his perfect campaign by defeating 8th seed Luke HAMMOND 6-4 6-4 and set up the clash with 2nd seed, world junior No.60 LO Chien Hsun from Taiwan. Both of them were no stranger to each other as LO edged past Jackie in the same event last year by three sets, however Jackie was proven the stronger player this year and took the revenge in straight sets 6-3 6-4 to book his place in the semi-final. He eventually succumbed to  Australian Alexei POPYRIN’s powerful service games, losing in three sets 2-6 6-2 2-6.
Jackie will gain 50 ranking points from the tournament, and will break into top 200 in the latest ITF junior rankings, becoming the 2nd high ranked local player in the ITF junior circuit, coming after Andrew LI.
Similar story happened in the boys’ doubles event, 3 local pairings were dismissed in the first round with LAM Ching and Alan SOU being the only team to advance. They were again one step away from the final as they lost in the semis to Luke HAMMOND and Jason LEGALL by 3-6 3-6.
The Hong Kong Open Junior Tennis Championships is Hong Kong’s premier international junior tennis tournament which featured top juniors from countries all over the world. This is the 2nd year Hong Kong holds a ITF G2 Tournament.
