Hong Kong secures 4th place in 1st National Youth Games

The 1st National Youth Games (NYG) is organised by the General Administration of Sport of China and undertaken by the People’s Government of Fujian Province. The NYG is formerly known as the National Intercity Games.

First held in 1988, the National Intercity Games was a national multi-sports event took place every four years, aimed at identifying and training sports talents, and promoting sports development of cities. Unlike the National Games, all of the participating units of the National Intercity Games were cities.

There are a total of 26 competition events in the NYG, Hong Kong sent a total of 8 players to compete in the tennis event.

The boys team consists of CHEUNG Ngai Long, Alan SOU and WONG Hong Kit. They were qualified for the last eight earlier this year in May. They beat Tianjin in the quarterfinals by 2:1 but lost to Nanjing by the same score in the semis. They ranked fourth eventually after losing to Zhejiang in the playoff.

The girls team with LAM Wing Kiu, Claudia NG, TSANG Wai Yiu, Venia YEUNG and YU Wing Sze faced the same fate as they defeated Wuhan in the quarterfinals but fell to Nanjing again in the round of last four. They lost to Shenyang in the playoff to secure the fourth place.
