2020/21 HKSI Funding Scheme (ETG / SAG)

HKSI funding schemes are now open for application for 2020/21.  Application forms and eligibility criteria could be downloaded from the Hong Kong Sports Institute website https://www.hksi.org.hk/support-to-athletes/financial-support/direct-financial-support/elite-training-grant/details.

At this time it is important that all stakeholders understand the process for selection, and what funding and services are available if the application is successful.

The Elite Training Grant (ETG) may entitle the player to a monthly grant that can be used for training and competition expenses. Players who are granted ETG funding may also gain access to a range of coaching, training, and medical services as well as tournament support. The extent of the services provided to each individual athlete will be at the discretion of the HKSI Head Coach.

The Sports Aid Grant (SAG) is an annual grant that can be used for training and competition expenses. Players who are not awarded an ETG may be considered for an SAG.

As outlined in the application process, players who satisfy the minimum criteria may be considered for ETG or SAG funding as well as entitlement to other services and/or tournament support as determined by the HKSI.

The selection process is a collaborative one, with HKSI and HKTA (coaches and committees) assessing a range of qualities of each individual athlete. The criteria includes, but is not limited to:

  • Current national and international rankings – HKTA, ATF, ITF, ATP, WTA, Singles and Doubles.
  • Best-effort at training and competition.
  • Punctuality and attendance (communication between the player and coach) at NTS and HKSI (or private) training programs.
  • Past performances and results playing internationally, in a team event (representing Hong Kong) or as an individual player.
  • Professional attitude toward training, competition, warm-ups, cool-downs, and equipment.
  • Positive attitude toward fitness, and demonstrating a determination to set and achieve personal fitness goals.
  • Positive attitude toward addressing technical and tactical weaknesses.
  • Determination to set and achieve personal technical and tactical goals.
  • Respect toward coaches, staff, parents, tournament officials, sponsors, equipment, and peers.
  • Sportsmanship.
  • Commitment to adhering to a tournament schedule as designated by the coach.
  • Personal goals of perusing a professional tennis career.
  • A commitment to representing Hong Kong whenever called upon to do so.
  • Access to flexible schooling, to be able to travel and train.

All applications must be received at the HKTA Kowloon Tsai office by close of business on 29 October 2019 (Tuesday).

Note: relevant performances achieved between 2 November and 31 December 2019, if any, should be reported to the office, in writing, no later than 2 January 2020.

Late applications or applications with incomplete information would not be accepted.
