Justine Leong Kwan Tung won the Hong Kong selection of this year’s Longines Future Tennis Aces on the road to the French Open.
This is the fifth edition of the annual event since 2010. Girl players, who are HKID or Hong Kong passport holders and under the age of 13 are eligible for this year’s selection.
16 players participated in the tournament and were divided into four groups. A preliminary round of round robin matches was played on April 5 and top player of each group would advance to the elimination round.
On April 6, Justine had a comfortable victory 4-0, 4-1 over Jenny Wong in the semi-final and faced her final opponent Cody Wong, who eliminated Skylar Wan also with 4-0 and 4-1. After a shaky start of losing 0-4 to Cody in the first set, Justine recomposed herself and took the next two sets with 4-2 and 7-3.
Justine will now represent Hong Kong in the Longines Future Tennis Aces Tournament at the 2014 French Open competing with top young players from 15 other countries around the world. The two finalists among the 16 players will have the opportunity to play an exhibition match with two tennis legends.
