Background
First held in 1948, the CRC Open Hardcourt Tennis Championships has continued to attract the participation of overseas, as well as the territory's leading players of the day. Since 2007, the CRC Open has featured as the second major on the local tennis calendar after the SCAA Open in October and, in turn, followed by the Hong Kong National Tennis Championships in December.
Notable Men's Singles champions from the past include Ip Koon Hung (1948, 1951-52, 1954, 1957-60, 1962-64), To Kwun kau (1949-50, 1953, 1956, 1961), Felicisimo Ampon (1968-69), Tau Luu (1970-77), Randall King (1980-82, 1985), Colin Grant (1984, 1993), Mark Bailey (1986-87), Michael Walker (1988-1991), Pang Lui (1992, 1995), Melvin Tong (1994, 1999), Shane Barr (1996-97), Yu Hiu Tung (2001-02, 2006), and Wayne Wong (2004-05, 2008), to name just a few.
Noteworthy Ladies' Singles champions include the likes of Mrs. Ling Tsui Yuen Yuen (1977, 1980), Patricia Hy (1978-79), Paulette Moreno (1981-82, 1984-85, 1992), Christine Kwok (1987-88), Pang Sheung (1989-90), Tong Ka Po (1996-97, 1999, 2001, 2004, 2007), Lam Po Kuen (2000, 2002-03), Venise Chan (2005), and Zhang Ling (2006).
