Jessica YangFinal day at the Hong Kong Open Junior Championships 2005 saw eighth-seeded Bai Yan of China capture the Boys' Singles title when he defeated No. 2 seed, Simon Childs, of England, 6-2, 6-4, in the championship decider, while top seed Jessica Yang became the first local representative to win the Girls' Singles crown when she put on a controlled display to thwart No. 2 seed, Lutfiana-Aris Budiharto, of Indonesia in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Bai Yan then completed the 'double' when he partnered compatriot Jiang Chuan to win the Boys' Doubles by defeating No. 1 seeds, Zhou Zhuo-Qing & Yin Xiao-Long, 6-4, 6-4, in an all-Chinese final. [Photo Gallery]

The Girls' Doubles final was played earlier on Friday when No. 3 seeds Guo Xuan-Yu & Zhou Yi-Miao defeated fellow Chinese pair Liu Meng & Liu Chang, 6-3, 6-4, to lift the title.

Bai YanThe 16-year-old Bai Yan, who was competing in just his third career tournament on the ITF World Junior Circuit after having reached the round of sixteens at both the G2 China Junior I and G3 China Junior II, became the first player since Arun Prakash Rajagopalan of India in 2003 to bag both the Boys' Singles and Doubles title at the HKOJC.

World No.172 and top seed, Jessica Yang, created a small historical chapter in the record books of the Hong Kong Open Junior Championship when she became he first local representative to win a singles title – Girls' or otherwise. The best finish in singles by players from HK had been Sven Koehler (Boys' Runner-up, 1992), Yu Hiu Tung (Boys' Runner-up, 2002), and Willy Chan (Girls' Runner-up, 1995).

However, homegrown players did walk away with the Boys' Doubles title on two previous occasions when Wayne Wong partnered Simon Dickson of England to win the 1998 crown, while Jack Hui & Brian Hung was the first all-Hong Kong duo to claim the title in 2002 when they came from match point down in the third set tiebreaker to defeat No. 8 seeds Adrian Szatmary of Hungary and Miles Kasiri of Britain 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(6), in the semifinals that year.

Last but not least, a very commendable effort indeed by 14-year-old Ryan Cheung, who together with doubles partner, Gilbert Wong, went all the way to the Boys' Doubles semifinals before falling to eventual champions, Bai Yan & Jiang Chuan, in three sets 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-1.
