Entries for the Open Events of this season's first local major – the HK$150,000 SCAA Open Tennis Championships 2008 – will close on Tuesday, September 2. The draw is scheduled to take place three days following the closure of the deadline, and play will commence starting September 13 through to October 19. The Hong Kong Tennis Association is organizing a tennis fundraiser this Sunday (June 1) to help contribute to the relief effort in the aftermath of the 8.0 earthquake that struck Sichuan on May 12.  Hong Kong's top coaches, as well as a number of former and current tennis professionals, will join in with the endeavour. All donations collected via HKTA "Tennis For Sichuan" shall go towards the Hong Kong Red Cross China Relief Fund.

The 2008 Dr. Henry Fok Corporate Patron League concluded earlier on Buddha's Birthday last Monday with the Police Tennis Club (PTC) going home with both the Premier and Bowl titles, while Elegant Scene Leather Goods Ltd. and The Chamber of Hong Kong Computer Industry were crowned Cup and Plate Champions respectively. Last Sunday saw the conclusion of this year's LIONS HK National Junior Tennis Championships at Victoria Park where in the 12 & Under age group finals, boys' top seed Tommy Lam came up trumps against No. 2 Oscar Cheung, 6-3, 6-4, while on the girls' side, No. 4 seed Eudice Chong beat third seed Caroline Lampl, 6-4, 6-3, to lift the title.

The LIONS HK National Jr Tennis Championships began last weekend at Victoria Park Tennis Courts with close to some 700 entries vying for supremacy in their respective age-groups. Defending champions Darren Ng (B18) and Wu Ho Ching (G18) are amongst the competitors this year but are both unseeded. Just who shall be crowned champions this time round?

Over the weekend, Yu Hiu Tung was only two points away from defeat but pulled away in the end to beat reigning Triple Crown winner, Goran Bosalevski, 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-0, to lift the HK Tennis Champions Cup 2008.  In addition, Henry So & Ma Rong successfully defended their doubles title by defeating Andrew Town & Adrian Montesinos, 7-5, 6-2, in a highly entertaining final.
