The HKTA is to introduce an entry-level Umpires Training Course in an attempt to raise the officiating standard and broaden umpiring opportunities in Hong Kong. The objective of this course is to explain to participants the duties, code of conduct and basic techniques of chair umpiring and line umpiring. ITF rules will be used as the basis for illustration of basic techniques and standard procedures of chair umpires and line umpires. Deadline for applications is 3 September 2003.

Chairman of the HKTA?s Officiating Committee, Mr. Joelle Ho (front row, third from left), plus HKTA President, Mr. Kenneth Tsui, and Executive Director, Mr. Peter Hung, met with several of the SAR?s senior tennis officials ? Horace Wong, K.K. Yuen, Lo Hing Kuen, and Lo Wai Chik ? in the past week to establish a constructive dialogue with regards to the development of a blueprint for the deployment and upgrading of the overall standard of tennis umpires in the territory.
