Over in the PURE Ladies' Singles final between a pair of 3-4th seeded teenagers, Wu Ho Ching defeated Katherine Ip, 7-5, 6-3, to win her first local major.

The HK National Tennis Championships 2008 will conclude tomorrow (Saturday, Dec 20) with the PURE Ladies' Singles Final between 3-4th seeds Katherine Ip and Wu Ho Ching, plus the Doctor's Choice Men's Singles Final between No. 2 seed Sean Cooper and 3-4th seed Coenie van Wyk of South Africa.

Seven of the top 8 seeded players have claimed their places in the Doctor's Choice Men's Singles quarterfinals at the HK National Tennis Championships 2008, while over in the PURE Ladies' Singles field, all four seeds have progressed to the last eight with straight-set victories.

At the CRC Open 2008, No. 2 seed Wayne Wong defeated an error strewn Jonathan Chu, 6-2, 6-1, to bag his third career men's singles title, while on Saturday, second-seeded Sher Chun Wing defied the world rankings by beating top seed He Chun-Yan (WTA 789), 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, to win her first ladies' singles crown at these championships.

Former ATP No. 527 Jonathan Chu ended defending champion Goran Bosalevski's bid for back-to-back titles when the American triumphed, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, at the CRC Open 2008 semis last night. In Sunday's final showdown, he will face No. 2 seed Wayne Wong, who won a hard-fought semifinal against 5-8th seed Coenie Van Wyk of South Africa, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6(4).

The semifinal line-ups for both the Men's and Ladies' Singles at the CRC Open 2008 are now good to go, with the top seeds for both events, Goran Bosalevski and He Chun-Yan, very much still alive as the tournament heads towards the final stages this weekend.

In one of those most tightly contested men's second round matches last night at the CRC Open 2008, former HK Davis Cupper Brian Hung sent 3-4th seed Sean Cooper out of the tournament with a 7-6(2), 4-6, 6-4, victory to set up a quarterfinal showdown with 5-8th seed Coenie van Wyk, who came from a set down to beat Jack Hui, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, in a match that was separated by a mere few points here and there.

Seeded players were untroubled in the opening round of the men's singles at the CRC Open 2008, as both No. 1 seed Goran Bosalevski and No. 2 Wayne Wong barely broke a sweat in securing their places in round two. A number of the men's singles first round matches had already begun this evening at the CRC Open 2008, while the opening fixtures in the ladies' singles will also join the fray starting tomorrow.
