Hong Kong's junior number one Dino Dell'Orto (ITF 151) successfully negotiated three rounds in the B18 singles qualifying to reach the maindraw of the 62nd Dunlop Orange Bowl before he was upended by 16th-seeded world No. 55 Dino Marcan of Croatia, 7-5, 6-3.

At the US$25,000 ITF Women's Circuit event in Perth, Australia, qualifier Jessica Yang (WTA 1038) is into the quarterfinals of a C25 for the first time in her career when she beat No. 5 seed Alexis Prousis of USA (WTA 297) in the second round, 6-1, 6-3. Next up, Jessica will face either Michaela Johansson of Sweden (WTA 442) or No. 1 seed Yurika Sema of Japan (WTA 264) for a place in the semifinals.

Like many of the top-ranked juniors around the world, Hong Kong number one Dino Dell'Orto heads to the Americas this week for the three highest graded tournaments remaining on the ITF calendar this year – the G1 Yucatan World Cup, G1 Eddie Herr, and the GA Dunlop Orange Bowl.

The Chinese Taipei duo of Lu Yen-Hsun and Hsieh Su-Wei successfully defended their Asian Hopman Cup title when they combined to beat host Kazakhstan 2-0 in the final in Astana City over the weekend to qualify for the Hyundai Hopman Cup XXI in Perth scheduled for January 3-9, 2009.

Earlier last month, Hong Kong was represented by Andrew Town and Roland Liu at the Italia Cup – the premier team competition for Men's 35 or over. The event took place at the Club Ali Bey, Turkey, with the annual ITF Seniors World Individual Championships being held the week after. After beating Ireland in the playoffs, the HK team placed 19th overall.

Just as she did 12 months ago, sophomore Venise Chan wrapped up the Fall season by taking both Flight A singles and doubles, this time at the San Diego State University Fall Classic II over the weekend at the Aztec Tennis Center when she beat teammate Denise Dy in the singles final, 6-2, 6-2.

At the Asian 14 Under Championships 2008 – Bahrain, Kelvin Lam was halted in the quarterfinals in both boys' singles and doubles, while Vivian Lin took second-seeded Megha Sehrawat of India to a deciding set before exiting, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2, in round two of the girls' singles.

At the Grade 2 LTAT Junior Championships 2008 in Thailand, Dino Dell'Orto and Kelsey Stevenson combined to reach the boys' doubles final. However, the HK-Canadian duo came away second best against top-seeded Francis Casey Alcantara and Huang Liang-Chi in the title showdown, 6-1, 6-7, 6-2, earlier on Saturday.

Although she was upset by 10th-seeded Jennifer Heinser (San Francisco) in the last sixteen of the women's singles, Venise Chan and Denise Dy (Washington) have teamed up to beat No. 5 seeds Alexandra Poorta and Claire Soper (St. Mary's) to reach the quarterfinals of the women's doubles at the 2008 Wilson/ITA Northwest Regional Championship.

NCAA No. 28 Venise Chan, seeded seventh, heads to the Taube Family Tennis Stadium in Palo Alto this weekend, as Stanford University serves as host for the 2008 Wilson/Northwest Regional Championship scheduled for October 17-20. Top 10 players, 4th-ranked Hilary Barte (Stanford) and 7th-ranked Marina Cossou (Berkeley), heads the list of seeds for the women's singles.
