The 10th All China Games in Nanjing later today will see Hong Kong's seventh-seeded Yu Hiu Tung and eighth-seeded Wayne Wong go up against No. 2 seed Sun Peng (Tianjin) and top seed Wang Yu (Tianjin) respectively in the men's singles quarterfinals, as the territory's duo bids to propel themselves into the final four and a potential shot at a medal.
Second-seeded Sun Peng is currently ranked just outside the Top-300 at No. 304 but peaked at No. 290 earlier in July after reaching the round of sixteen at the Granby Challenger where he lost to Taiwan's Lu Yen-Hsun, 6-7(3), 7-6(5), 0-6. Using ATP Ranking as the differentiating factor, Sun is, in fact, the present Chinese number one, as he is easily the highest ranked player in the draw according to ATP Entry Ranks.
Top-seeded Wang Yu is ranked at No. 372 at present. He has yet to crack the Top-300, however, as his highest rank to date was 309th achieved a little over a year ago in August 2004.
The other bracket in the top half of the draw pits third seed, Zeng Shao-Xuan (Jiangsu), against Beijing's Yu Xin-Yuan, who knocked out No. 5 seed, Wang Yi-Ning, of Tianjin, 6-2, 7-5, in the previous round..
The remaining quarterfinal bracket in the lower half of the draw has sixth-seeded Lu Hao (PLA) go up against No. 4 seed Zhu Ben-Qiang (Hubei).
Earlier in the second round, Wayne saw off Sichuan's Liang Shuang-Qian, 6-2, 7-6(4), while Tung was stretched to a deciding set by Li Xiang before going through with a, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, win.
Play begins at the Nanjing National Tennis Centre at 10am this morning, with both Tung and Wayne's quarterfinals scheduled as the second match on.
