In view of the need for quality coaches and a growing demand for certified tennis coaches, the HKTA has collaborated with the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the World Governing Body of Tennis, to embark on a series of high-level certification courses for coaches here in Hong Kong. The first-ever ITF-endorsed Coach Certification Scheme in Hong Kong commenced on October 11, 2002.
The inaugural ITF-endorsed HKTA Coach Certification Scheme consists of a DC-1 & DC-2 course, which are training and certification programs for Elementary and Development Coaches. The Scheme also comprises a Mini Tennis Instructor Course where graduates will be deployed in primary school mini tennis programs.
Some 40 coaching candidates and 20 potential instructors were recruited via a meticulous, painstaking screening process before admission into the Scheme. Mr. Jacques Hervet, an experienced ITF expert who flew in from the U.K. specifically for this assignment, has conducted training programs of this magnitude in numerous other countries.
