HK Junior Fed Cuppers to open against top-seeded Japan

Team HKGThe official draw for both the Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup was held earlier on Tuesday, with the girls from HK being drawn in Group A alongside No. 1 seed Japan, No. 8 Korea, and Malaysia. The territory's trio of Katherine Ip (ITF 786), Leung Lok Sze, and Lucy Tang (ITF 1562) is to face the top-seeded Japanese first up on Wednesday.

Hong Kong will then next play Korea before finishing the round robins with a meeting with Malaysia.

The JFC groupings are as follows:

Group A – (1)Japan, (8)Korea, Malaysia, Hong Kong
Group B – (3)Indonesia, (5)India, Philippines, Sri Lanka
Group C – (4)Uzbekistan, (6)New Zealand, Chinese Taipei, Thailand
Group D – (2)China, (7)Australia, Pakistan, Singapore

Last year, the HK trio of Katherine Ip, Leung Lok Sze, and Lorraine Cheung placed 13th overall in Bangkok after beating Singapore convincingly in their final playoff game.

Meanwhile, over in the Junior Davis Cup, the Hong Kong boys contingent of Justin To (ITF 321), James Kong (ITF 520), and Vincent Yau (ITF 1017) will contest Group D against the likes of second-seeded India, No. 7 Philippines, and Kazakhstan.

The JDC groupings are as follows:

Group B – (3)Uzbekistan, (6)Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia
Group C – (4)Japan, (5)Australia, Chinese Taipei, Pakistan
Group D – (2)India, (7)Philippines, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan

Hong Kong is pitted against 7th-seeded Philippines first up on Wednesday before rounding things off in the group stage against No. 2 seed India and Kazakhstan.
