World junior No. 25 Jessica Yang is to face Holland's Lesley Kerkhove (ITF 40) in the opening round of the girls' singles at the 2008 French Open Junior Championships. The match is scheduled for Sunday (Jun 1) at 11am out on Court 5.

Jessica Yang is currently ranked at a career-high No. 25 following two Grade 1 semifinals and a runner-up finish at the GB1 Asian Closed Jr Tennis Championships in India. However, in her most recent outing on clay – the Grade 1 Astrid Bowl – a traditional tune-up for Roland Garros, she went out in the round of 32 to Germany's Sina Haas in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

Nonetheless, should the Hong Kong 18U number one go through, she will meet either Germany's Linda Berlinecke (ITF 42) or No. 10 seed Elena Bogdan of Romania in the second round.

In their only career meeting to date, Elena Bogdan beat Jessica Yang in the first round of this year's Australian Open Jr Championships, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.

Linda Berlinecke was a surprise semifinalist at last week's Grade A Italian Open where she beat Elena Bogdan, 6-2, 6-2, in the quarterfinals. However, she had to win through two round of qualifying in order to secure her place in the maindraw here at Roland Garros.

The top five seeded players in the girls' draw are Melanie Oudin of USA (ITF 2), Arantxa Rus of Holland (ITF 3), Noppawan Lertcheewakarn of Thailand (ITF 4, WTA 489), Ana Bogdan of Romania (ITF 5, WTA 808), and Jessica Moore of Australia (ITF 53, WTA 220).

The top five seeded players in the boys' draw are Bernard Tomic of Australia (ITF 2), Cesar Ramirez of Mexico (ITF 4), Jonathan Eysseric of France (ITF 30), Yuki Bhambri of India (ITF 5), and Henrique Cunha of Brazil (ITF 6).
