Dino into second round of G1 Japan Open Jr Championships
By Andy Yanne @ 12:21 AM :: 287 Views ::

In a repeat of the final in Brunei a fortnight ago, Dino Dell'Orto (ITF 178) again defeated Faris Akhazzan of Britain, this time in a straight-set decision, 6-4, 7-5, to advance to round two of the Grade 1 Japan Open Jr Championships 2008 in Nagoya.

Accordingly, conditions at the Nagoya City Higashiyama Park Tennis Centre were awfully windy, with temperatures hovering at around a chilling 8°C without fail. "It's so tough to play here. The wind was so strong, it almost blew me away even!" said Dino, who stands at 6'1" and weighs in at 170lbs.

Next up, the Hong Kong junior number one will take on the talented No. 12 seed from India, Akash Wagh (ITF 123), for a place in the last sixteen.

The Indian has made a great start this year when he reached the G2 final in Gurgaon and then winning the G3 ONGC ITF Juniors 2008 the following week in Calcutta. However, those tournaments came in January, and his form had since teetered off, as he proceeded to lose in the first round in three of his next four events to date.

In the doubles, Dino will once again team up with Kelsey Stevenson, who together collaborated to win the doubles title at the Hong Kong ITF G5 Tournament at Victoria Park back in January. The HK-Canadian duo will take on Japanese pair, Hikaru Kawasaki and Motoaki Kita, in the opening round. The winner of this match shall go on to face No. 6 seeds Huang Liang-Chi of Chinese Taipei and Logan Mackenzie of New Zealand for a place in the quarterfinals.
