Players from Hong Kong – Justin To, Kelvin Lam, Vincent Yau, Carmen Lai, and Vivian Lin – took part in the Korea Asian 14/U Series Tennis Tournament in Yanggu over the past couple of weeks.  Top finishers were Kelvin Lam in 13th place overall in the boys' section and Vivian Lin in 15th amongst the girls.

For the Week One tournament, Kelvin Lam finished in 5th position and Justin To 12th for the boys' section, while Vivian Lin came 15th overall, followed by Carmen Lai in 19th position. In the second week, Kelvin Lam and Vincent Yau finished in 13th and 30th positions overall; while in the girls' section, Vivian Lin and Carmen Lai placed 15th and 21st respectively.

The two-week tournament Korea Asian 14/U Series Tennis Tournament in Yanggu is sanctioned by both the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) & Korea Tennis Association (KTA).

Earlier at the 14/U Series Tennis Tournament in Kuching, Malaysia in August, Vincent Yau managed to place 7th after beating Sourabh Raghuvanshi of India in the positional playoffs, while Kelvin Lam also finished in 9th spot overall.

All Asian 14/U Series tournaments (excluding the Asian 14/U Championships & Asian 14/U Masters Series Final) have a feed-in system for the singles draws, meaning players who lose out in the first round of the maindraw will be automatically entered into a consolation draw.

Since the ITF 14 & Under Asian Championships - Group 1 took place in Jakarta back in March, a number of Asian 14/U Series tournaments have been held within the region, such as in Sri Lanka, India, Japan, Syria, Jordan, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and the Philippines.

As expected, in some instances, not only did the home country's players dominate their home tournament, but more significantly, several exceptional players have emerged as a result of these events such as Jonicka Guba of the Philippines and Adelle Boey of Malaysia in the girls' section, and Aung Kyaw Naing of Myanmar, Ryoto Tachi of Japan, Ariiez Elyaas Deen Heesham of Malaysia, and India's Mohit Mayur and Ronit Bisht.

A player's combined ranking will be compiled on the basis of points earned in their best 6 individual singles and doubles events within the Asian 14/U Series tournaments, the ITF Zone 1 events, and the Asian 14/U Championships.

With only two more stops to go – Seoul and Bahrain – before the series-concluding Asian 14/Under Championships begins on November 19 in Bahrain, players from Hong Kong who are ranked on the ATF 14U Boys Rankings List are (as at 15 October 2007):

     Ranking
Player
      No. 14                   Justin To
      No. 58                   Kelvin Lam
      No. 65                   Vincent Yau

As at October 15, Justin To's ranking was based purely on just one tournament – the ITF 14 & Under Asian Championships (Group 1) in March – which he came fourth overall behind Korea's Jung Ki-Su, India's Rohit Bisht, and China's Cao Guan-Yu. On the back of that fine performance, he was subsequently selected, together with the above mentioned players, to the ITF/ATF 14U Team to Europe this summer.

Finally, according to the Asian Tennis Federation's Junior Rankings issued on October 8, seven players from Hong Kong currently hold an ATF Boys' 18U Ranking (ATF Ranking in brackets): Kevin Kung (ATF 54), Dino Dell'Orto (65), Ryan Ho (155), Gary Yam (164), Wong Yat Sing (210), Tyler Leung (291), and Darren Ng (366).

At the time of writing, the girls' ranking was not yet available from the Asian 14U Series official website:
