Kelvin LamAfter defeating Malaysia, 2-1, earlier on Friday at the World Junior Tennis Asia/Oceania Qualifying in Shenzhen, the sixth-seeded Hong Kong team of Kevin Wong, Kelvin Lam, and Vincent Yau is to face-off with Chinese Taipei in the 5th – 6th Place Playoff at the East Lake Tennis Club today. Kevin WongIn a replica of opening day's dominant display at the World Junior Tennis Asia/Oceania Qualifying in Shenzhen, the sixth-seeded HK team of Kevin Wong, Kelvin Lam, and Vincent Yau blanked New Zealand 3-0 earlier yesterday to go joint-top in Group 2 together with No. 3 seed China. The territory will next face-off with China to determine final positions for qualification to the knockout stage.

Hong Kong beats Lebanon 3-2 to stave off relegation

Team HKHaving needed to win both reverse singles to stave off relegation, Hong Kong did just that on Sunday at the Chinese Recreation Club where Yu Hiu Tung first leveled the tie at 2-2 by calmly defeating opposing No. 1, Karim Alayly, 6-2, 6-3, 6-3. Michael Lai then completed the 3-2 overall victory by seeing off the inexperienced Ibrahim Abou Chahine, 6-1, 6-1, 6-2, who got the call in place of the ailing Jicham Zaatini.

Yu Hiu TungAfter opening day's action in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Asia/Oceania Zone Group II Relegation Playoff held at the Chinese Recreation Club, Hong Kong and Lebanon are deadlocked at 1-1 following the opening singles, thus guaranteeing a grandstand finish this weekend with everything still to play for.  First off, Yu Hiu Tung gave the home side a 1-0 lead by beating Jicham Zaatini, 7-6(2), 7-6(2), 6-7(1), 6-0, but Lebanese No. 1 Karim Alayly managed to beat Michael Lai, 6-2, 6-2, 3-6, 3-6, 9-7, to pull his team back on level terms.

At the GB1 Asian Closed Jr Tennis Championships in India, No. 3 seed Jessica Yang (ITF 37) was trailing by a set and 3-5, 0-40 down in the second before she fought off all three match points to register a 2-6, 7-5, 6-4, victory over No. 8 seed Alexandra Kolesnichenko (ITF 87) of Uzbekistan to progress to the semifinals.
