Rampant Rus halts Jessica in round two of girls' singles

At The Junior Championships, Wimbledon, second-seeded world No. 3, Arantxa Rus, advanced to the girls' singles third round at the expense of Jessica Yang (ITF 24) with a 6-3, 6-0 victory. Meanwhile, in the girls' doubles, Jessica and Thailand's Kanyapat Narattana went out in the opening round to No. 6 seeds Jessica Moore and Poloma Hercog, 6-3, 6-3.

ITF Announces Direct Acceptance List for Beijing Olympics

Beijing 2008 Olympic Tennis EventThe International Tennis Federation announced earlier on July 2 the direct acceptance list for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Tennis Event. Spearheaded by world number ones Roger Federer (SUI) and Ana Ivanovic (SRB), 17 of the top 20 men and 18 of the top 20 women will compete in Beijing, making it the strongest field ever since tennis returned as a full medal sport at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

China's Sun Peng (ATP 485) and Japanese teenager Kei Nishikori (ATP 103) are among the half dozen men who received ITF Places for the tennis event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. On the women's side, Chinese Taipei's Chan Yung-Jan (WTA 72) and Japan's 18-year-old Ayumi Morita (WTA 126) are the Asian recipients to secure their tickets to this year's Summer Olympiad.

Seeded second at the C10 Davos in Switzerland this week, Zhang Ling is ranked at a career-high No. 326 according to the latest Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Singles Rankings. Elsewhere, Jessica Yang, who is competing at the Grade 2 Gerry Weber Junior Open in Germany, has also reached a career-best No. 23 on the ITF World Junior Circuit.
